Everybody’s Doin’ It

We’ve had quite a few guests on the show that when asked “What is the one thing a guy can do TODAY to start positively changing his life?” the answer is invariably “meditate.” , , , ,  and the  are all on board.

Even the ultimate badass, Darth Vader was a meditator. (Which also proves that you can meditate and still be kind of a dick, but that’s for another post altogether…)

I’m not a meditation expert nor am I a meditation teacher. In fact, my practice is a bit shotty. However, I have been going at it for almost ten years, and my cushion dutifully waits just a few feet from my office chair everyday. It reminds me that, yes, this is the single best practice a person can do. Now take your seat!

Why Meditate?

It’s pretty simple. Most everything we want in life — more love, freedom, success or chocolate requires that we have clarity. Specifically clarity about what we want. Thanks for writing — it’s great that you’re enjoying the shows!

Marriage commitment and any kind of relationship commitment is a solid idea for a topic, too. I dealt with this for a LONG time in my previous relationship and I coach guys on this stuff, too.

I don’t have the complete picture for you, but from experience I don’t believe that a guy’s sex drive or admiration of other women should suddenly cease to exist. It’s not an indicator whether or not he loves his mate.

Let me explain.

The one time I interviewed Coach Bowden was when I was a subcontracting videographer for ESPN living in Tallahassee, Florida. I had recently graduated from FSU and it was scientifically proven that Bobby Bowden walked on water. Had the iPhone existed back then we would have it documented.

Each week before a game, the producers in Bristol would dispatch one of us along with one of the “Gameday” guys to ask the coach a few questions.

But this one particular time, it was just little old me and a faxed list of questions to ask the coach. Since the camera wasn’t on me, the gig was hard to screw up. Set up a few lights, get some good sound and make sure it’s in focus. As the question-asker, all I had to do was read the questions. Easy, right?
