I Was Wrong About Masculinity: Macho Jerks and New Age Wimps — Jason Lange
How can you tell if you’re too soft — or too domineering — as a man?
Why are so many modern men afraid of their own masculinity?
And how do we build a sense of purpose and belonging while knowing someone’s really got our back?

Since I started The New Man back in 2007, people have asked me how to be The New Man. I’ve never liked that question, or the broader one of how to be a man, because it implies there’s a formula to follow.
I believe there are universal qualities to being a man, but it’s not a checklist. What it means to be a man is unique to each of us. And that unique path is what lets us become who we genuinely are, instead of a bunch of clones with beards and guns. And I’m a guy with both a beard and guns.
But I’ve learned that this perspective isn’t entirely true.
I met Jason Lange over 20 years ago. He was one of my first coaching clients, and I helped him start a men’s group he’s still in to this day. Since then, he’s dedicated himself to men’s work, and now leads groups and retreats of his own.
I asked him to join me today to help me see what I’m missing about masculinity.
